Peanut Island Snorkeling Guide
A little preparation. A whole world underwater.
Checked October 13, 2026 · Independent visitor guide

Where to explore
Explore the shoreline artificial reefs and the southeast lagoon. From the shuttle’s northeast island dock, follow the walking path toward the snorkeling areas. Ask the captain to point them out during the crossing.
Let the tide shape your day
The operator recommends high tide and the two hours either side for visibility. Incoming water often improves clarity, but wind, rain and current can change conditions. A tide prediction is not a swimming safety report.
Check tides & weather ↗What you might see
Look for sergeant majors, colorful reef fish, rays and sea turtles. Manatees may visit the lagoon, especially in winter. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed; observe without feeding, chasing or touching.
A first-timer’s approach
Snorkeling here is self-guided. You need swimming ability, a buddy and equipment that fits. Stay within designated areas, assess currents and avoid boat channels. County notices say swimming areas are currently unguarded during the week. Bring your own gear or use the marina rental described in our packing guide.
